Concealed Handgun Permits

Applications for Concealed handgun permits are accepted at the Sheriff's Office 

Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. by appointment only (excluding holidays)

How to apply for a new or renew concealed handgun permit?

You must apply in person at the Sheriff's Office application can be downloaded here.

Do I have to have an appointment?

Yes, you have to setup an appointment, we do not take walk ins. You can call
336-236-3094 to make an appointment.

Where can I take a concealed handgun class?

The Sheriff's office does not hold concealed handgun classes, you can contact a local gunstore and/or look up classes online. You must take a physical class and qualify with a firearm.

What if my permit has expired?

The state of NC grants a sixty (60) day grace period after the date your permit expires. You do not have to re-take a class however, you will have to be re-fingerprinted as well as a $90 fee.

What if my address/name changes (Davidson County)?

If your permit was issued in Davidson County you must apply in person. No appointment is needed. Just make sure you bring your updated license as well as your permit. 

What if my address/name changes (Out of County)?

To do an address change you must contact the county your original permit was issued and transfer to your new county. If your permit was issued in Davidson County you must apply in person to transfer. No appointment is needed. Just make sure you bring your updated license as well as your permit.
