RECORDS
The records division is responsible for managing and processing agency reports, including criminal investigations, arrests, and other related information. In essence, this division acts as the central repository and processor of information for the sheriff's office.
To obtain records from the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, you'll need to submit a public records request. You'll need to specify the type of record you're requesting and provide relevant details like dates, names, and/or case numbers.


EMPLOYMENT
This division of the Sheriff's Office handles all aspects of hiring, onboarding, and managing employees. This is a collaboration of many components and is responsible for recruiting, interviewing, and selecting new employees, as well as providing training and support for current staff.
HIRING & RECRUITMENT
Job Postings: The employment division creates and manages job postings for various positions within the sheriff's office, including sworn and civilian roles
Applicant Screening: They review applications, conduct initial screenings, and manage the application process
Interviewing: The division coordinates and conducts interviews with potential candidates
Background Checks: They manage background checks, pre-employment drug screenings, and psychological exams for candidates
Physical Fitness Assessments: For some positions, the employment division may administer physical fitness assessments
Selection and Onboarding: They help select the most qualified candidates and oversee the onboarding process for new employees


CARRY CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMITTING
In North Carolina, individuals seeking to carry a concealed handgun must obtain a permit from the sheriff of their county of residence. This permit allows the lawful concealed carry of a handgun, with some restrictions.
Applications for Concealed Handgun Permits are accepted by APPOINTMENT ONLY at the Davidson County Sheriff's Office.

FINGERPRINTING
The Davidson County Sheriff's provides fingerprinting services to the public. You must be a resident of Davidson County or work in Davidson County.
You must have a valid ID that shows your residency or proof that you work in the county.
For Live Scan fingerprinting, you must obtain a copy of the Electronic Release Form your employer supplies.
To better serve our community, the Davidson County Sheriff's Office no longer requires an appointment for fingerprinting.

CAPTAIN
STEVEN COMER
Captain Comer began his public safety career in 1995 with Davidson County EMS. In 2001, Captain Comer began his law enforcement career with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and was stationed in Davidson County as a State Trooper. Captain Comer’s Highway Patrol career included promotions to the rank of Sergeant, First Sergeant, Lieutenant, and retiring in August 2023 at the rank of Captain over the Logistics Unit in Raleigh. In October 2023 was hired by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office as the Captain over the Technical Services Division. Captain Comer has a Associates Degree from Davidson Davie Community College, Bachelors Degree from Western Carolina University, and has completed the North Carolina State University Administrative Officers Management Program (AOMP). Captain Comer holds numerous law enforcement and EMS related credentials.

MOTOR UNIT
The primary duty of the Davidson County Sheriff's Office Motor Unit is to assist patrol and other sections within the agency as needed. The Motor Unit is heavily involved in community-oriented programs as well as interagency departmental activities such as Booze It & Lose It (DWI) and Click-It or Ticket.
Our Motor Unit conducts escorts involving governmental or dignitary personnel, funerals, and other special events that are approved by the Sheriff.
The Motor Unit team consists of highly trained licensed Motorcycle Riders with precision skills and handling techniques.


LAKE PATROL
During the warmer months of May through September, thousands of citizens and visitors come to Davidson County to enjoy the waterways of the County. Fishing, water skiing, swimming, or just relaxing on part of the 262 miles of shoreline. Sometimes though, the celebration of vacation and relaxation becomes hazardous to others enjoying the water. To avert those situations, the Davidson County Sheriff's Office Lake Patrol provides security on and around the waterways. Deputies regularly patrol High Rock Lake and the subsidiaries connected.
The Lake Patrol unit responds to water incidents even outside of their normal operations of patrol.


LIEUTENANT
BRYANT WILLIS
Lt. R.B. Willis began his career in law enforcement in 2003. In 2016, he joined the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy. Quickly rising to the rank of Patrol Sergeant in 2019. In 2020, he was promoted to Sergeant in the Professional Standards Division. In 2024, he was promoted to Lieutenant in the Professional Standards Division.

Graduated from Appalachian State University in 2014 with a BS degree in Criminal Justice. He began his career in law enforcement as a patrol officer with the Boone Police Department from 2015 until 2018. In April 2018, he joined the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy II in the Patrol Division. In 2019, he was promoted to Detective Investigator in the Criminal Investigations Division. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the Professional Standards Division in January 2024.
