Professional Standards Unit
Employment with the Davidson County Sheriff's Office provides each employee with an opportunity to serve the citizens of the County, as well as the hundreds of thousands that visit Davidson County yearly. Under the supervision of Captain Steven M. Comer who Ensures that only the best wear the badge of the Sheriff's Office is one of the responsibilities of the Professional Standards Unit. Professional standards receive hundreds of applications, and each must be evaluated closely. In addition to the hiring process, Professional standards assure that each employee has the proper, required training and updated information to perform their assigned tasks to the best of their ability.

Captain Bryant Willis
Captain R.B. Willis is the Commander for the Technical Services Bureau for the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office. Captain Willis began his career in law enforcement in 2003 and joined the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office as a Patrol Deputy, in 2016. Captain Willis has served as a Patrol Deputy, Patrol Sergeant, Professional Standards Division Sergeant and Professional Standards Division Lieutenant. Willis was promoted to Captain of the Technical Services Bureau in May of 2026, by Sheriff Simmons. The Technical Services Bureau consists of the Professional Standard Division, Personnel Division, Records Division, Carry Concealed Weapons Permitting Unit, Fingerprinting Unit, Recruiting Division, Office Support Personnel, Motor Unit and Lake Patrol Unit. Willis has received the Advanced Service Award and the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission.
Lt. Kaleb Forrest

Graduated from Appalachian State University in 2014 with a BS degree in Criminal Justice. He began his career in law enforcement as a patrol officer with the Boone Police Department from 2015 until 2018. In April 2018, he joined the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy II in the Patrol Division. In 2019, he was promoted to Detective Investigator in the Criminal Investigations Division. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the Professional Standards Division in January 2024 and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2026.
