TRACE Division

Traffic and Criminal Enforcement Division

The Traffic & Criminal Enforcement (TRACE) Team is a specialized unit within the Sheriff’s Office made up of six uniformed Detectives who focus on proactive enforcement and criminal investigations throughout Davidson County. TRACE Detectives handle a variety of complaints and conduct self-initiated investigations aimed at reducing crime and improving roadway safety. The team is actively involved in speed enforcement and DWI enforcement.

In addition to traffic enforcement, the unit investigates a variety of criminal cases, including property crimes, residential breaking and entering, and larcenies. Their work often leads to the identification of drug-related activity and other criminal offenses. TRACE Detectives also conduct criminal interdiction along the interstates that run through Davidson County, targeting the movement of illegal drugs, stolen property, and other criminal activity moving in and through the county.

The TRACE Team participates in the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program Traffic Safety Task Force and works closely with the Davidson County chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to educate and promote safe driving.

Through proactive enforcement, criminal interdiction, and investigative work, the TRACE Team supports the overall mission of public safety in Davidson County.
