ABOUT

Terry Allen Surratt (Bones-Stack) - 21 years old

On August 16, 1975, deputies responded to a call at the Outlaws Clubhouse located on Old 29-70 South of Lexington, NC. Upon their arrival, deputies spoke with Neil Young, a member of the Outlaws motorcycle club, who reported that his fellow club member, Terry Allen Surratt, had been shot.

Mr. Young explained that he had gone to the Roadranger Truck Stop to get something to eat. When he left, he was shot at by someone who appeared to be hiding in the bushes near the overpass on Old 29-70. Mr. Young stated that a vehicle traveling northbound had fired several shots at him, and he returned fire in self-defense. After the incident, Mr. Young returned to the clubhouse and informed other club members of what occurred.

According to Mr. Young, three members - Paul Curry (from Lexington), Michael Bishop (from Wisconsin), and Terry Surratt (from Charlotte) - jumped into a brown van to search for the individuals who had shot at him. Mr. Curry recounted that they traveled north on Ol 29-70, and when they turned onto I-85 North, another vehicle pulled in front of them. At that moment, a car behind their van began shooting, and Mr. Surratt was struck in the head by a bullet. Mr. Curry stated that they quickly returned to the clubhouse and called for an ambulance.

Mr. Surratt was transported to Lexington Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
